About Patricia
"tapping the untapped"
Being compassionate, nonjudgmental, and sensitive to cultural differences, I am able to form strong therapeutic relationships, and create an environment in which you will feel safe and supported as you process experiences, gain insight, and explore options for change. I work from a position of client strengths and abilities, noticing solutions, perhaps unacknowledged, that are already operating in your life and which can be activated in the context of your current concern(s).
As well as a Master's degree in Counselling, I have two Bachelor's degrees in the areas of language and translation. I am also a BC-certified Teacher. Born in BC, I was raised in the interior and then traveled to Australia where I pursued post secondary education and gained Australian citizenship. I have also lived in France, in Quebec and in Ontario where I became a translator. I have worked in a number of environments, ranging from the Keewatin Educational Authority where I helped develop a grammar book in Inuktitut to Apple Canada where I worked in software development; from a private business involved in scientific research carried out on the Mir space station to the planning department of a Crown Corporation. I bring lived experience to the field of counselling. I have worked at the Need Crisis and Information Line, Citizens' Counselling Centre, Victoria Women's Transition House and the Family Violence Project. I am the youngest of four children also the parent of four children.
I hold a Masters Degree in Counselling Psychology and I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors. RCC's address clinical mental health issues through assessment, intervention, therapy and prevention. All RCC's must satisfy the Association's requirements of education, supervision and clinical experience. As an RCC, I am accountable to the Association and to the public through the Association's Code of Ethical Conduct and Standards of Clinical Practice. I am also a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC), registered with the Canadian Counselling Association
Hours are flexible and I will make every effort made to suit your schedule. Fees are based on the type of counselling service you select. A limited number of sliding scale spaces are available. If you have an extended health care plan, you may be eligible for fee reimbursement. Ask your provider if they cover Registered Clinical Counsellors, or I would be happy to ask on your behalf. Counselling services are not currently covered by a BC CareCard.
